LPA NOW EDITORIAL COPY
LPA NOW EDITORIAL COPY
INTRODUCTION TO BRIEF
The brief for this project was to create an editorial page promoting LPA Now as a trusted, accessible team dedicated to helping individuals secure a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) - a legal protection that ensures people retain control over their assets, finances and personal welfare should they fall ill or lose mental capacity. The copy needed to raise awareness of a crucial truth many readers may not realise: a will only protects someone after they pass away, whereas an LPA safeguards their wishes during their lifetime. With this in mind, the editorial had to communicate the urgency and importance of putting an LPA in place early, encouraging readers to protect themselves or support family members and friends who may already be struggling. The aim was to deliver clear, reassuring and informative messaging that empowered individuals to take action now, rather than waiting until circumstances make it too late.
BRIEFING THE PROBLEM
The main challenge of this project was shaping an editorial piece that remained informative and clear despite the limited space available. Securing a Lasting Power of Attorney involves a lot of essential information - legal distinctions, practical implications, and emotional considerations, yet the copy needed to present these details in a way that was concise, digestible and engaging. Capturing the reader’s attention was another hurdle; LPA is a sensitive subject, and many people avoid thinking about loss of capacity or future vulnerability. The copy therefore had to strike a careful balance: serious but not bleak, urgent but not fear‑driven, and helpful rather than heavy.
A further problem was ensuring absolute factual accuracy. Because LPAs are often misunderstood, it was crucial that the editorial clearly explained what an LPA can do, and importantly, what a will cannot cover, without exaggeration or misrepresentation. The messaging needed to build trust, reassure readers and guide them toward taking action, all while respecting the emotional weight of the topic. Ultimately, the challenge was to create a piece that was informative, approachable and credible, encouraging readers to protect themselves and their loved ones with confidence.
PROCESS AND TOOLS
I produced the LPA Now editorial page in Adobe InDesign, shaping a layout that balanced clarity, sensitivity and authority. Working closely with my director, I developed copy that was both informative and reassuring, drawing on real‑life examples, verified references and accurate statistics about situations where individuals may urgently need an LPA in place. This research‑led approach ensured the messaging was factual, trustworthy and free from any exaggeration - essential when dealing with legal protections that readers may not fully understand.
The design process centred on creating a layout that made complex information feel approachable. I incorporated relevant imagery that supported the narrative without overwhelming it, helping break up dense content and guiding the reader’s eye through the page. Hierarchy was carefully considered to ensure key points, such as the difference between an LPA and a will, and the importance of acting before capacity is lost, were immediately visible even at a glance. The result was a clean, structured editorial piece that communicated a sensitive topic with clarity, empathy and professionalism.
OUTCOME
The final editorial page for LPA Now delivered a clear, trustworthy and persuasive message that helped readers understand exactly why securing a Lasting Power of Attorney is essential. The creative combined informative, accessible copy with multiple layers of trust‑building elements, including LPA Now’s impressive 4.9 Trustpilot rating, references to Martin Lewis, one of the UK’s most trusted financial voices, and warm, authentic imagery of the LPA Now team. To reach both core audiences, the layout also featured a photograph of an older woman with her adult children, reinforcing the idea that LPAs protect not just individuals but entire families.

Full Page
A strong call‑to‑action was placed throughout the copy, supported by a unique response code that readers could quote when enquiring. This allowed the team to track engagement and measure how effectively the advert performed. The design followed LPA Now’s established brand identity, using their signature orange and navy blue to maintain consistency and visual recognition. At the bottom of the page, a QR code provided an instant digital route for readers to access a contact form, making it easy for them to take the next step.
Overall, the editorial successfully raised awareness of LPAs and encouraged more people to secure their protection through LPA Now, resulting in increased enquiries and a stronger understanding of why an LPA is vital in ways a will cannot cover.
